Manesh Girn is a PhD candidate in Neuroscience at McGill University specifically focusing on psychedelic research. Not only do we cover a variety of topics around the current psychedelic research, Manesh also shares his vision for the future of psychedelics and some of his philosophy on life and mental well-being.

During the ep, we talk about mystical experiences (from the research perspective), the brain under a psychedelic, psychedelics for physical healing, and what he feels is currently being underserved in the current psychedelic research.

From beginning to the very end, this conversation is fun, engaging and informative.

More About Manesh: Manesh is a PhD candidate in Neuroscience at McGill University and has been lead or co-author on over a dozen scientific publications and book chapters on topics including psychedelics, meditation, daydreaming, and the default-mode network. His PhD dissertation focuses on the default-mode network and he is also conducting research on the brain mechanisms underlying LSD, psilocybin, and DMT in collaboration with Dr. Robin Carhart-Harris and others from the Imperial College London Center for Psychedelic Research.

This week on the pod! I’m with former professional hockey player Riley Cote. Riley spent 8 years playing professional hockey, 4 of which were for the NHL playing for the Philadelphia Flyers and was known as an “enforcer” on the team. For those not familiar, the enforcer is essentially a designated tough guy. The player who’s getting in the fights.

During this episode, Riley talks about the journey of going from a warrior-type hockey player to the spiritual yogi he is today. Thanks to psychedelics and cannabis, he talks about how these compounds have aided in his physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Riley is the co-founder of BodyCheck Wellness, a company that offers high quality hemp-derived CBD & functional mushroom products. He’s also an advisor for Wake Networks who is currently working on research and development for psilocybin & psilocin biosynthesis.

My guest this week is musician Big Black Delta aka Jonathan Bates. Jon has an incredibly spiritual life and during this episode, he discusses how discovering his journey into Self has informed his music and continues to shape his choices. With the pandemic devastating many musicians, Jon discusses how he has been diving into the unknown with a new level of trust in the universe.

Big Black Delta has collaborated with a number of other artists such as Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails) and Poison The Well drummer Chris Hornbrook to name a few. He also released his fourth album, “4”, in July 2020 and is currently working on his fifth album.
